About the Directors
Music Director Michael Barrett, co-founder and associate artistic director of the celebrated New York Festival of Song, is also Chief Executive and General Director of the Caramoor International Music Festival. He has guest conducted major orchestras here and abroad in symphonic, operatic, and dance repertoire. Mr. Barrett served as the director of the Tisch Center for the Arts at the 92nd Street Y and is currently music advisor to the Leonard Bernstein Estate. His recording The Joys of Bernstein, features Mr. Barrett playing solo piano with Maestro Bernstein conducting.
Artistic Director Leslie Tomkins is an active violist, appearing with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, American Composers Orchestra, American Symphony, Westchester Philharmonic, and Stamford Symphony, among others. An avid chamber musician, she is a member of the Musical Arts Ensemble and a guest artist with Music from Copland House and many other chamber ensembles in the tri-state area. She holds degrees in music performance from the San Francisco Conservatory and the Mannes College of Music, where she studied with Karen Tuttle. She is married to MMF co-founder Michael Barrett, and mother of the irrepressible Emma Barrett.
